Acceptable Use &
Termination Doctrine

Effective at launch · Applies to every account, every tier

Classified exists so that private people can have private mail for $1.44. That only works if our servers stay trusted by the rest of the internet. One abusive account can get our addresses blocked for a hundred honest ones — so we run a zero-tolerance policy, and we mean the "zero" literally. If protecting your mailbox requires ending someone else's, we will not hesitate, and this page is the only warning they get.

■ Immediate Termination Clause

Doing any of the following ends your account immediately, without prior warning, and without refund. Sending is revoked and the account is frozen the moment a violation is confirmed. There is no strike system. There is no second operative badge.

01Conduct That Ends Your Account Instantly

  1. Spam. Sending unsolicited bulk email of any kind — marketing blasts, purchased or scraped mailing lists, chain mail, "newsletters" nobody signed up for, or any mass mail without verifiable consent from every recipient.
  2. Phishing and impersonation. Messages that pose as another person, company, bank, government agency, or service — including lookalike addresses, forged display names, or counterfeit login pages.
  3. Header forgery and spoofing. Falsifying message headers, envelope information, or sending identities; relaying mail for third parties; or probing our systems to use them as an open relay.
  4. Malware. Sending, linking to, or storing viruses, ransomware, spyware, or any code designed to damage or covertly access systems or data.
  5. Fraud and scams. Advance-fee schemes, fake invoices, business-email-compromise attempts, romance scams, investment fraud, or any use of the service to deceive people out of money or information.
  6. Threats, extortion, and harassment. Credible threats of violence, blackmail, sextortion, stalking, or sustained targeted harassment of any person.
  7. Child sexual abuse material. Zero tolerance in the strongest possible sense: the account is terminated on the spot and the matter is reported to the authorities as the law requires. Encryption protects the innocent; it will never be a shield for this.
  8. Illegal commerce. Using the service to sell, broker, or coordinate trade in anything unlawful to sell.
  9. Attack activity. Credential stuffing, password-spraying, port scanning, denial-of-service participation, botnet command-and-control, or launching any attack from — or against — our infrastructure.
  10. Limit evasion and account farming. Creating accounts in bulk, automating registration, sharing or reselling accounts, rotating accounts to dodge sending caps, or mail-bombing any recipient.
  11. Impersonating Classified. Posing as our staff, our billing, or our security team — to our users or to anyone else.

02How We Catch It (Without Reading Your Mail)

Your messages are sealed with your keys — we cannot open them, and we never will. Enforcement runs entirely on what abuse looks like from the outside:

This is a feature, not a compromise: the same wall that stops us from policing your words stops everyone else from reading them. We terminate behavior, never opinions — because opinions are exactly what we can't see.
